As part of a visionary urban design initiative, Engineered Artworks collaborated with Rebar Design Studio, Ian Moore Landscape Design, and the Downtown Oakland Association to fabricate a series of durable and visually engaging placemaking elements for Latham Square Plaza, located at the intersection of Telegraph and Broadway in Oakland, California.
This civic art project included the custom fabrication of sculptural street furniture and public space features using steel, aluminum, reclaimed redwood, and vintage cast iron light pole bases. Installed as part of a pilot program, the plaza served for over a year as a flexible testing ground for public design ideas, transforming the area into a community hub and active event space.
The project showcases Engineered Artworks’ ability to execute architectural public art fabrication and custom metalwork for civic partners aiming to improve urban experience through functional sculpture and thoughtful design.
