John Edmark: Dahlias – Resonance Bar, Atlantis The Royal, Dubai

Dahlias is a pair of large-scale, illuminated wall sculptures commissioned for the Resonance Bar at Atlantis The Royal Hotel in Dubai, UAE. Created by artist and mathematician John Edmark in collaboration with Sean Orlando and the fabrication team at Engineered Artworks, these kinetic-inspired sculptures are a mesmerizing fusion of math, nature, and technology.

Each Dahlia is composed of more than 1,000 individually designed aluminum petals, mounted in a spiral pattern that follows the golden angle (137.5°)—a form found throughout nature and connected to the Fibonacci sequence. Behind the petals, addressable LEDs are programmed to animate the spirals with dynamic light choreography, enhancing the sculpture’s layered geometry and creating an immersive visual experience.

Engineered Artworks served as the sculpture fabricator and technical partner, collaborating closely with Edmark to bring his mathematically precise vision to life. From complex metal fabrication to custom LED integration and on-site installation, the project represents the studio’s capacity for precision public art fabrication on an international scale.
