Engineered Artworks designs, produces and fabricates interactive, immersive, educational and participatory works of art. From our studio in West Oakland, CA we harness our collective experience in design, fabrication, finance, education and research to build large-scale community-based art. Our goal is to create aesthetic environments bridging the span between fantasy and reality; functional, fantastical environments serving as portals to other worlds.

We work primarily with industrial styles and materials, such as steel and aluminum to create functional space for large groups. Our collaborative design process incorporates financial, logistical and environmental constraints within a detail-oriented artistic vision.  Each project is led by two to three directors who manage small, focused teams addressing aspects of design, engineering, fabrication and logistics. This system is highly collaborative, permitting flexibility and ensuring the right people work on the right parts of each project at the right time. The resulting creations thrive in the real world of crowds and weather, inspire wonder in all ages, and support rich communities of people from diverse backgrounds.
